Weight loss app without miracle diets
Losing weight has no trick: eat a little less than you burn, for long enough, without having such a bad time that you give up. A useful app helps you with all three. Fotorie is designed for that, with the expertise of a nutrition center and without promises of quick kilos.
What it takes to lose weight (for real)
There are four things that separate those who lose weight and keep it off from those who lose it and regain it. None is a secret, and none depends on a named diet.
- A reasonable deficit. Eat about 300 to 500 kcal less than you burn. A larger deficit is not faster in the medium term: it means more hunger, more muscle loss, and more giving up. You can calculate yours in the calorie deficit calculator.
- Sufficient protein. Around 1.6 to 2 g per kilogram of body weight per day. It protects muscle while you lose fat and is the most satiating.
- Adherence. The best plan is the one you can follow on any given Tuesday in November. Food you like, quantities you can log effortlessly, room for a dinner out.
- Look at the trend, not the number. The weight on a given morning depends on water, salt, time, and other things that are not fat. What matters is the average over two or three weeks.
A weight loss app is useful if it helps you with these four and not if it sells you the fifth: speed.
How Fotorie helps
A plan with a floor
To start, with your sex, age, weight, height, activity, and goal, Fotorie calculates your calories and macros. Two limits the app does not allow crossing: never below 1,200 kcal for women or 1,500 for men, and a weekly rate of loss limited to what is considered healthy. If you ask for more, the coach lowers it to a reasonable level and explains why. If you want to see what numbers we are talking about before installing anything, the daily calorie calculator performs the same calculation.
Logging without it being a chore
The deficit only exists if you know what you eat. In Fotorie, you take a photo of your plate, and the app identifies the foods, estimates the grams, and adds up calories and macros. What doesn’t have a photo can be entered by text, with the barcode, or by telling the coach with a voice note. It’s the calorie counter that is actually used because it’s not tiring.
A menu that already fits
Weekly menu with 50 free recipes and the entire catalog in paid plans, with illustrative AI-generated images, step-by-step instructions, adjusted to your calories and diet type (hypocaloric, Mediterranean, high protein, vegetarian, vegan, keto). With equivalents to swap one dish for another without going off plan and a shopping list. If you eat what’s on the menu, one tap and it’s logged.
A coach who doesn’t scold
The AI nutrition coach knows your day: what you’ve eaten, your weight, your workout, your medication, and your blood pressure. You ask what to have for dinner, and it suggests something within your remaining budget. You overate at a dinner: it tells you without drama and looks at the whole week. It celebrates what you do well and doesn’t paint anything red.
The weight trend
You weigh yourself whenever you want, and the app draws the real trend above the daily noise, with a forecast of where you’re headed if you continue as you are. Measurements and progress photos for what the scale doesn’t tell.
Losing weight with Fotorie is not like a magazine diet. It’s like eating normally, a little less, knowing what you’re doing.
What it doesn’t do, on purpose
| What you won’t find | Why |
|---|---|
| Miracle diets, detox, extreme fasting | They don’t work in the medium term and cause harm. The app’s approach is that of the Vitasane clinic, not that of trends. |
| Plans below 1,200 / 1,500 kcal | The calorie floor cannot be deactivated. Below that, the loss is muscle, and rebound is guaranteed. |
| Weight target during pregnancy or lactation | These stages have their non-deficit plan, with more protein and water. The app does not allow setting a target weight or pace. |
| Diagnoses or medication changes | The coach takes your medication and blood pressure into account when recommending food, but never diagnoses or changes guidelines. |
| Reds, guilt, and streaks broken by one day | It costs more than it helps. The app looks at the week. |
Fotorie does not replace your doctor or nutritionist. If you have an illness, take medication that affects weight, or have had problems with food, speak to a professional first; the app can support that follow-up, not replace it.
The first week
- Day 1. You install the app, answer the questionnaire, and get your calorie and macro plan. Don’t change anything yet: log what you eat with photos and see where you are.
- Days 2 to 4. You start with the menu or with your usual dishes in the quantities the app indicates. You ask the coach whatever comes up: what to have for dinner, what to do with a meal out, why you have excess protein.
- Days 5 to 7. You weigh yourself a couple of mornings. The graph doesn’t say anything yet, and it doesn’t have to. What matters is that you have logged six out of seven days.
From there, it’s repeating. If you want to start, download Fotorie for Android or iPhone; the free plan doesn’t require a card.
Frequently asked questions
Is Fotorie a free weight loss app?
Yes. The free plan includes the calorie deficit plan, logging (2 AI-powered photos a day and unlimited text or barcode entries), the weekly meal plan, the weight trend graph, gym and health tracking, all ad-free. Paid plans expand photo and coach message limits.
How much weight can I lose with the app?
As much as a reasonable deficit allows: the app limits the pace to a healthy range (around 0.25 to 0.75 kg per week depending on your situation) and does not allow going below 1,200 kcal for women or 1,500 for men. Losing faster usually means losing muscle and regaining everything later.
Is it suitable if I have high blood pressure or take medication?
Yes. You log your medication and blood pressure in Health, and the coach takes it into account when recommending food and drink. It does not diagnose or change guidelines: that is for your doctor.
Is it suitable for pregnancy or lactation?
The app offers indicative non-deficit plans for pregnancy and lactation. Its filters may make mistakes: review the menu and your needs with your midwife, doctor, or dietitian-nutritionist before following it.
What if I have a bad day?
It’s okay, and the app doesn’t highlight it in red. The coach looks at the week, not the day, and the weight graph shows the trend, not the shock of one morning. You continue the next day.
